BWLDC Announces Three Endorsements for Prince George’s County Council

Reston, VA (January 9, 2018)— The Baltimore Washington Laborers’ District Council (BWLDC), an affiliate of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), recently announced its endorsement of three candidates for public office in Prince George’s County, Maryland: State Senator Victor Ramirez for State’s Attorney, Gerron Levi for At-Large Councilmember, and Jolene Ivey for District 5 Councilmember.

The BWLDC endorsed Donna Edwards for Prince George’s County Executive on November 30, 2017, and is now rounding out the slate of candidates it will be supporting.

“Senator Victor Ramirez, Gerron Levi, and Jolene Ivey each have a long history of public service, a commitment to working families, and a solid understanding of the importance of organized labor,” said David Allison, Business Manager of the BWLDC. Current LIUNA membership in Prince George’s County is approximately 1,500 members.

Ramirez has served as a State Senator representing District 47 since 2011. He was a Member of the House of Delegates from 2003 to 2011, and one of the first Latinos elected to the Maryland State House. He also operates his own law practice, specializing in criminal defense. In 2013, Senator Ramirez walked the picket line with LIUNA members when they went on strike against Unity Disposal as part of their fight for better wages and benefits.

Levi represented District 27A in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2007 to 2011. She is an experienced labor attorney, former senior lobbyist at LIUNA, and former Deputy Director of Legislation at the AFL-CIO. She is an active member of Laborers’ Local 11, LIUNA.

Ivey represented the 47th Legislative District in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2003 until 2014, when she was a candidate Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. She currently serves on the boards of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, Pyramid Atlantic, and Children’s Hospital.

“Prince George’s County deserves elected officials who put the interests of working men and women before those of special interest groups,” said Allison. “Senator Victor Ramirez, Gerron Levi, and Jolene Ivey will do just that.”
