“He’ll Promote and Defend the Economic Development and Workers’ Rights Our State Needs”
Reston, Va. (April 20, 2017) – The Baltimore/Washington Laborers District Council of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America –endorsed Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam to be Virginia’s next Governor during an event today with members at the region’s headquarters.
“He’ll promote and defend the economic development and workers’ rights our state needs,” said Dave Allison, a Virginia resident and business manager of the Baltimore-Washington Laborers’ District Council, which includes Virginia. “He’s proven that he’s on the side of working people, including LIUNA members, who do the hard work of building our state every day.”
Lt. Gov. Northam met with members during the official endorsement.
“Just as we work hard to build Virginia every day, we’ll work hard to elect Lt. Gov. Northam,” Allison said.
The union represents thousands of Virginia residents and is among the most politically active in the state. The union is also a strong and effective advocate for energy and transportation infrastructure development – its members build pipelines throughout the state, as well as transportation projects, such as the metro extension to Dulles International Airport and the Interstate 495 and 95 HOT lanes. Its public service employee members provide janitorial services at airports, government facilities and other institutions throughout the commonwealth.
